My boss bought iPad (3rd generation) at Singapore and bring to Japan. He has dozen of SoftBank Mobile handsets, then he thought if iPhone 4 SIM is capable for activating 3G service on his new iPad. It failed.
iPhone 4 SIM has different APN setting from iPad's.
It should be set as following.
APN smile.world
Username dna1trop
Password so2t3k3m2a
It worked, anyway.
This might run your iPad with iPhone 4 SIM, but I strongly suggest not to use usually, because SoftBank Mobile does not allow and may claim additional payment.
